Drama Therapy for Survivors

Drama Therapy for Survivors

Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that allows clients to explore different emotions, experiences and thoughts through creative arts. Dramatherapy is not a ‘drama class’, meaning that you don’t need to have any knowledge or experience of drama to come along to sessions. Sessions can help you gain insight into difficult feelings by reflecting in a creative way, which can sometimes be easier than talking about challenges.

In dramatherapy, we can work with story, character, puppets, masks, movement, ritual, breath work and more. During sessions, you will be invited to use these to explore experiences and feelings. We may use small objects, play music, write a poem, use our voices, dance or use masks and story to identify and express feelings and thoughts that might be hard to witness in a less creative way.

We will work together to identify which dramatic processes work well for you. You can always say no to any invitation I may suggest, and you can always suggest processes you’d like to explore further or return to. These are your sessions.

Trainee Dramatherapist, Kate Stevens (Queen Margaret University), is currently offering one-to-one and group Dramatherapy sessions with us at Argyll & Bute Rape Crisis in Dunoon and Helensburgh. Kate will be with us until March 2024. If you or someone you support are interested in working creatively through Dramatherapy, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
